I WILL BUILD A BAPTIST CHURCH?

ALTHOUGH THE LORD DID NOT SAY I WILL BUILD A BAPTIST CHURCH AND THE GATES OF HELL SHALL NOT PREVAIL AGAINST IT,

During his time on earth and shortly thereafter, the church started by Christ can be known by certain characteristics and peculiarities

1. head and founder is Christ.

2. administrator is Holy Spirit

3. continues and teaches all things whatsoever he commanded

4. promised perpetuity and therefore there will always be a local church faithful to Christ on earth, which do not need to be restored

5. works according to the practices of the apostles

6. propagates with ordinances as the apostles practiced

7. dis-fellowships and disciplines those who do not continue in the apostles doctrine

Does that describe your church?

For sure it is not an INC, ADD, LUTHERAN, RCC, METHODIST, etc church.

I am sure, such seven things I mentioned, can be found in our church, which is a Baptist church.

the premise is THE LORD PROMISED IT, therefore it must be seen in history, even in dark ages,

second premise, since the LORD PROMISED perpetuity, it is impossible that the churches ceased to exist, baptism ceased, true doctrines and practices ceased

third premise, since Baptism came from heaven, then it must have continued existence

TO DETRACTORS OF PERPETUITY, THIS IS MY QUESTION

naniniwala ka ba na kahit sino magbaptize ok lang?
naniniwala ka ba na nawala ang true baptism so that, napunta sa SPRINKLING or POURING of babies ang buong mundo, then na restore lang sa IMMERSION of ADULTS after faith, sometime in the reformation period?

We believe this way.

perpetuity of the word of God

perpetuity of the understanding and teaching of truth

perpetuity of the institution called “my church”

perpetuity of believers unto the visible kingdom of God.

MOREOVER

I believe in perpetuity of correct baptism

perpetuity of true local churches

perpetuity of gifts of the Spirit to edify the church he perpetuates

As churches multiplied, we have to define what is a church whom God considers as true, this we did thru BAPTIST DISTINCTIVES

THE BAPTISTS ARE THE ONLY PEOPLE AS A CHURCH who

Baptized by Immersion while others were sprinkling

Baptized only believers while others accepted babies

 

Consider each church as separate from the state and other churches

Consider each member as responsible to God individually

 

Never came out of Rome

Never failed and will never fail

 

Two ordinances only

And now as Baptists multiply with different kinds of Baptists of every shade and color, we must again become more distinct and define what we understand as a real Baptist

We are not only just any Baptist – WE ARE LANDMARK BAPTISTS –

We believe that God preserved the church thru 4 proper things

Proper baptism – only baptized people baptized others, only those authorized by the church baptized converts

Proper sending – only the holy spirit gifted and sent men to the ministry thru the church

Proper ordination – only the ordained representatives of the church laid hands to ordain men

Proper organization – only an existing faithful church can beget a new church

ON CHALLENGES TO SHOW LINEAGE, AND ON CHURCHES WHO SHOW LINK TO LINK SUCCESSION

The lineage is only for illustration and possibility, no one believes it can be used as an infallible documentary evidence

The book 3 witnesses for the Baptists, has at least proven that the Baptists beliefs and practices are ancient, that there are churches who never joined Rome, and that these churches are orthodox.

ON OUR INSISTENCE OF THE NAME BAPTIST AS ATTACHED TO THE CHURCH

It simplifies identity, it is honesty, it is taking a stand, it is giving notice to others that we have certain distinctives and separate from others

From different names to one name.  From different ways of explanation to a single explanation.  Just like the doctrine that I believe that the Father is God, the Son is God, the Spirit is God, is now shortened to just saying, I believe the Trinity and it is understood.

We are not arrogant or proud.  Those who go away from the doctrines of the Bible are the arrogant Christians. Those who instead of believing the promise of Christ that His church will prevail would rather believe that it was forsaken by Christ, are the arrogant ones. We are considered foolish and believe against seeming historical documentary evidence that our churches are the continuation of the apostles.

 

THE PROPER USAGE OF THE TERM, “THE BODY OF CHRIST”

Christ has a literal body, he has a spiritual body.

The term “body of Christ” has many meanings depending on the grammar and the context.

Rom 7:4  Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Rom 12:5  So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

1Co 10:16  The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

1Co 12:12-13  For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.  (13)  For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

1Co 12:27  Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

HERESIES PREDICTED, HERESIES HAPPENED AND WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN

1Co 11:19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.

It’s as if gusto talaga ng Panginoon na magkaroon ng mga digmaan, sa pagitan ng mga naniniwala sa katotohanan, para sya lang ang pagtiwalaan natin, at hindi tao,  Kapag kasi mayroong tao na halos perpekto sa lahat ng turo, at ugali, then sa kanya na tayo lagi magtitiwala at magtatanong, sa kanya na tayo hahanga.   I believe God does not want that kind of thing to happen on earth.  We must admire Christ alone.

THE PERPETUITY OF TRUTH VS THE PERPETUITY OF THE CHURCH

There are good teachers who are better than us and maybe better than all of us combined, and yet they believe and teach only one aspect of perpetuity.  The perpetuity of Truth.  Under this scenario, once the truth is enscripturated then that will continue till the end. God will raise men in all the ages who will read, understand, and teach these truths, but even if they do not survive, and even if their churches do not survive, the truth will survive.  There will come a new generation of men whom God will touch and the truth is restored once more and practiced once again.

In contrast, we believe this:

Not only did God perpetuate the truth, we believe that God perpetuate churches who obey the truth.

Some believe that The Church (universal invisible) is perpetuated but not any particular church.

We believe that the church as an institution is perpetuated, and that God can and did perpetuate churches, not only symbolic, not only in the abstract, but in actual practice.  We believe there has never been a day on earth, after Christ built His church, that the gates of hell prevailed against it.  There has never been a day when there was no true church, congregating, teaching, witnessing, preaching, worshipping, in fellowship, breaking bread, baptizing, agreeing, practicing all things whatsoever Christ has commanded.  We believe Christ’s promises and therefore even in the absence of solid, historical, acceptable proof that such a thing indeed happened in the world, we believe it happened, because it should happen, because the word of the King cannot be broken.

WE further believe that there is strong evidence, that the kind of church today, which is the solid evidence that the promise has been fulfilled, are true Baptist churches spread all over the world.  Not all baptist churches are true, not all adhere to the doctrines, and not all who have the doctrines practice them truthfully; nevertheless, the Lord knoweth them that are His .

there are lots of gathered people in the scriptures, but we can’t call them the church the body of Christ.

the church is MOU EKKLESIA, and it has certain parameters, Christ gave himself for it, Christ cleanses it and nourishes it, Christ will present it to himself a glorious church, Christ gave to it first apostles, then prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers. Christ gave it gifts thru the Spirit, to distribute to every man severally as He will, and that it may be built up, with the members of this body supplying energy that it may be a temple, a habitation of the Spirit on earth.

The New Hampshire Baptist confession, realizing the error of the London Baptist Confession of Faith in referencing the UIC, removed the reference to the universal church.

 

I believe that the faith is universal, that churches can be universally found, but there is no such entity as a UNIVERSAL INVISIBLE CHURCH brought about by internal work of the Spirit.  The church has ONE founder, it is the Lord Jesus Christ. It is not the church of the Spirit of God, it is the church or churches of Christ.

 

I believe the word church can and was used in a generic institutional sense, but there is no corporeal body formed into a big church composed of all the elect, and not even composed of all the New Testament saints in all denominations.

 

I believe there are saved people who are outside the churches, even as there were believers of Christ who were not accompanying Christ at his time.
